Zero 7

Ever since the first time I heard/saw this in 2001, I was loving it. "Destiny" is such a great, chill song featuring the vocals of Sia Furler and Sophie Barker. It was on their first album "Simple Things". The song's lyrics deal with two lonely hearts whose paths in life will eventually tread into one another, hence the title. And as for the video, still to this day one of the most beautifully artistic videos I've ever seen. EVER. Such great animation. Definitely check this one out and COMMENT.

Zero 7- Destiny

"Nas Is Like" was the first single from Nas' third album I Am.... This song was always a favorite of mine, mainly because of the slick wordplay and DJ Premier's production skills. The lyrical presence of Nas was clearly evident from the first lines: "Freedom or jail, clips inserted,/ a baby's bein' born Same time my man is murdered,/ the beginning and end". This shit is crazy. Check it out.

Nas- Nas Is Like

The Incomparable Shakespeare- "The British Invasion" EP

The British Invasion is a hybrid experiment that fuses the musical aesthetics of American and UK pop. The project’s goal was to maintain the integrity of the source material while creating a rich new sound not typically found in Hip-Hop. The references are incredibly diverse and range from The Beatles to Bloc Party to Soul II Soul. This EP should not to be confused with the disposable mixtapes which clutter the web. This is music! All I ask is that you listen with open ears.

Kanye West

Not found on any album, "Improvise" is easily one of my favorite Kanye West tracks ever. Using a girl crying as apart of the beat, "Improvise" is about a girl that meets up with a guy that's famous and he tells her not to get blinded by his fame. But then he spends his money on material things. He lies to her face. And at the end of his splurge trip he comes back to find out his girl is now focusing on school.
She went on to improvise on the situation. To use whatever is available for her survival of life and move on without the help of the one she was supposed to be with. Check it out.
Kanye West- Improvise

Gym Class Heroes

Off of 2005's "The Papercut Chronicles". "Faces In The Hall" is probably one of the most emotional rap songs of the decade. Released on Fueled by Ramen/Decaydance (Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy's label), it is also one of the most sad stories ever rapped. But it also has a message and is very meaningful. Definitely a song worth hearing and listening to over and over to understand what is being said. Check it out.
Gym Class Heroes- Faces In The Hall

The Streets

From his debut album, "Original Pirate Material", "Let's Push Things Forward" was able to take U.K. garage hip hop in a new direction with material reflecting the lifestyle of clubbers in Britain. The track reflects the philosophy of the album. The album was released and proved to be successful both with critics and the general public alike. The Streets was nominated for best album, best urban act, best breakthrough artist and best British male artist in the 2002 BRIT Awards. Check it out.

Sunday Classics... 11.29.09

Right around the time of Gym Class Heroes' "As Cruel As School Children", their lead, Travis McCoy, hooked up with some unknowns. At the time, you had to wonder, who in the hell is Drake and Mickey Factz? Fast forward to now, Mickey is known and you can't get away from Drake's popularity. But the song "Overdose On Life" was the first time I took wind of these guys. And I have loved this track ever since. Please take a listen to some rappers who people like now before they became known.
Omen ft. Drake, Travis McCoy, Mickey Factz- Overdose On Life

This song was released as the first single from their fourth album, "As Daylight Dies". "My Curse", along with the rest of the album, has been generally praised by critics but has gotten criticised for going away from their style in past albums. Toning it down from their previous "harder" sound. "My Curse" is more of a mix of metal + melancholic intersections. A really good sound and unexpected if you notice that the lead isn't your typical lead singer.
Killswitch Engage- My Curse

New Music... 11.29.09

Perhaps the oddest pairing in recent memory. But somehow, it kinda works for 30STM and Kanye. Definitely worth a listen. And Chip Tha Rip, another leaked Timbaland track, more than likely from his own camp. This one also has the potential to find lots of radio/club spins. DOWNLOAD. LISTEN. COMMENT.

Lupe Fiasco- "Enemy Of The State: A Love Story"

Easily one of the most anticipated mixtapes over the past few weeks. Lupe "goin' in" over some really recognizable beats. and the wordplay is ridiculous. For instance, take a few lines from his remix of Diddy/Dirty Money's "Angels":

"said she was a fan of mine/
knew she was New Jersey (Devils), but said that she was Anaheim (Angels)/
butterflies turn to suicides, now its phantoms flyin/
used to whisper in my ear, but now she tryna vandal mine/
that holy feeling all gone, slowly feeling all wrong/
none of this is satisfying, pull it over, let me out, ill just hitch hike back to mine/
nothings really as it seems, yea i shoulda known that/
thought i called a angel, devils had my phones tapped"

For a song to come out in 1994, "Everyday Struggle" is still very relevant and relatable to me. I really don't need to add a big write up for this one. Biggie's storytelling of his life's struggles are simply lyrical magic pumping out the speakers. Still one the best songs he has ever done in my opinion. A MUST LISTEN IN MY BOOK.

Notorious B.I.G.- Everyday Struggle

A personal favorite of mine over the past two years. "After Hours" just sounds great. The strumming. The drum beats. The cymbals crashing sound well placed. A song that describes a relationship in the form of club/bar hours. Just a very well put together up-tempo indie song. Not often you get those.

We Are Scientists- After Hours

Off Jay-Z's second album, 1997's "In My Lifetime...Vol.1", "Lucky Me" could possibly be the best example of the stress, envy and utter bullshit one can go through with a little bit of success. Whether you are the platinum artist, or even the guy who won out the promotion at work. There is always someone trying to trip you up with their hatred for what they don't have. You wanna be rich and popular and successful. You live a good life. But, with stress, bullshit, conniving men and women trying to tear you down every moment to get a part of what you have, is it really the "good" life? Not so much....lucky me.

Jay-Z- Lucky Me

Fall Out Boy has always been one of the few bands I really check for when they have new music out. "Dead On Arrival" is a song that came out before the massive popularity explosion that was 2005's "From Under The Cork Tree". Dumbed down, the song is an artistic way of telling a girl who may not be totally into you, that I am a good guy if you just give it a shot. For example in the chorus, using a vinyl record as the guy:

This is side one,
Flip me over
I know I'm not your favorite record
The songs you grow to like never stick at first
So I'm writing you a chorus,
And here is your verse

Fall Out Boy- Dead On Arrival

New Music... 11.15.09

New music from everyone's favorite British Punjabi Sikh R & B singer under Lil Wayne's Young Money label. And with DeWayne sidelined for a while, he's gonna need Kamaljit (Jay Sean) and Aubrey (Drake) to keep the label afloat. Because let's be honest, those other hacks would be lucky to headline at the local small club or open at your city's 2nd largest arena.

Also, new Lloyd,Melanie Fiona and Gucci songs.

Jay Sean- War
Jay Sean- Eternity
Lloyd ft. Lil Wayne, Juelz Santana- Pusha
Lloyd- Fly Away
